“The Snow Queen in summer?”, you ask in bewilderment…
According to director Paulius Tamolė, there is no wrong time for Hans Christian Andersen’s work: “I happened to get my hands on a story book by this author that had been translated by Liudas Remeika from Danish. The original Snow Queen consists of seven separate stories, during which readers experience all the seasons of the year. But let’s not focus on winter or Christmas. In this case, we are talking about colder relationships, and distance between family members, friends and close ones. We ask, why do our hearts sometimes turn into pieces of ice?”
Tamolė is not afraid of this complicated topic, saying that stories are the best ways of talking to children without the falseness that so often pervades our conversations.
He will become the storyteller, and composer Chris Ruebens will add the power of the human voice and special effects to accentuate the specially selected music (e.g., the sound of wind rushing through the trees in a forest, a squeaky door, etc.).
So, come along! Perhaps The Snow Queen will become your latest discovery, or your favourite story before bedtime?
Duration: 60 min.
Recommended for children aged 5–14.
