They say that a good start is half the work done. So, for the opening of the Christopher Summer Festival, we have an intriguing combination: three musicians that simply captivate audiences for their talent, the most universal orchestra in Lithuania, and an unexpected concert repertoire. Here, besides the Italian romantic Sunset, we will also hear The Four Seasons, yet quite unlike Antonio Vivaldi’s famous masterpiece.
Composer Leonid Desiatnikov, inspired by this Baroque genius, kept the concerto format, but significantly expanded the scale of its style, moods and themes: from non-civilised coarseness to European elegance, from gentle lyrical episodes to irony, from an awakening love to death…
An expressive work, fitted into the spell-binding gestures of Giedrė Šlekytė, the impressive vocals of Jomantė Šležaitė and the virtuosi playing of Simona Venslovaitė – perhaps it will inspire us to reflect on the passing of time, or to create plans for the future, or perhaps to simply delight in being here and now.
