Dedicated to mark the 100th anniversary of the Song Festival
A hundred voices to mark the 100th anniversary of the Song Festival! The choirs Dainava and Dagilėlis invite you to this festive, uplifting opening concert of the cycle.
Although the collectives formed under different circumstances and even in different continents, their love for music and desire to share this feeling proved to be stronger than any obstacle along their way. According to the leader of the American Lithuanian arts ensemble, Darius Polikaitis, “Dainava exists to keep our Lithuanian roots alive, so that while listening to our pieces the soul of every audience member – young and old – may sing and rejoice in unison”. He also adds that he has excellent relations with his budding young vocalist colleagues and is delighted to be able to share the stage with this world-recognised boys and youth choir.
Indeed, in the United States (Baltimore) we have Dagilėlis Day, in honour of this collective, and in China they are known as the “choir of angels”, while in Germany they are referred to as the “Lithuanian Thomaner” (the Thomanerchor is one of the most renowned and oldest boys choirs in the world, in existence for more than 800 years). Dagilėlis has numerous prizes under their belt – as many as 15 of the highest-ranked international competition awards. And what is the secret to their success?
“I have heard many choirs whose music certainly has clarity, yet nothing much beyond that. A glass jar also resounds in a certain way, but it is empty. Our choir, meanwhile, knows how to fill music with emotions. Sometimes we ourselves are overcome by how moved people are upon leaving our concerts”, says the leader of the Dagilėlis choir Remigijus Adomaitis and promises to make shivers run down your spines too.
Programme includes G. Faure, V. Augustinas, J. Naujalis and others
