This year’s theme is the composer Stanisław Moniuszko, the soul of 19th-century musical life in Vilnius.
• About the excursion: 19th-century Vilnius. Invited guests assemble at the Müller and Römeris houses for Moniuszko’s chamber music evenings, others await to hear his organ-playing at the Church of St Johns. Others still attend piano lessons with the maestro-pedagogue… We’ll find out where the composer met the love of his life, what he had in common with Adam Mickiewicz, and we’ll follow in the composer’s footsteps through the capital’s old town, delving ever deeper into the intriguing realities of a past time.
• About the concert: Moniuszka funded the release of his first bestseller, “Home Songbook” himself. The songs for voice and piano were met to such acclaim by the public that six such notebooks were released, while this composer’s music could be heard from just about every house in Vilnius during the spring and summer. Today, most of those songs would be called romances, so naturally, this journey around 19th-century Vilnius shall end with a performance by Liuba Nazarenko (vocals, guitar).
“Liuba Nazarenko is a woman whose secret we want to uncover, or at least be able to answer the question of what it is about her that makes one want to cry when listening to her music – but not from sorrow or desperation, but that so much has happened in life, and that there’s just so much more to come” (Inga Liutkevičienė).
Program features Lithuanian and Russian romances
