Classical music throws off its tuxedo and heads for Cuba! For one evening, Mozart becomes Mambo Mozart, Brahms’ Hungarian Dances – a Cuban dance, while Beethoven’s Fate Symphony turns into Salsa No. 5. Sounds intriguing? In that case, we invite you to a fun encounter with the Klazz Brothers & Cuba Percussion.
These are five virtuosos, masterfully fusing Europe’s classical music masterpieces with salsa, son, bolero, merengue, afro and cha-cha rhythms. Their music is recognisable from the first beats yet it never sounds how you expect it to. Their legendary album Classic Meets Cuba, released by Sony Classical, received Echo Klassik and Jazz Award prizes, was nominated for a Grammy and was appraised by critics as “the most refreshing album in a long time”. The quintet’s music is not only heard in concert halls but on film screens as well – for example, in the Hollywood films Hitch and Collateral. Nonetheless, it’s not these achievements that are what’s most important but what actually happens in the hall.
“That moment when the public forgets what they ‘should’ feel and instead start to smile, move and dance, enjoying the music with their whole heart, that’s when we know we’re in the right place”, say the musicians.
We believe that you too will feel this experience. So come ready for a flood of southern energy, well-known melodies played to a new sound and... don’t forget your comfortable shoes for dancing!
