St Catherine’s Church (30 Vilniaus St, Vilnius)
Concertos for mandolin and orchestra
Soloist JULIEN MARTINEAU (mandolin, France)
CHRISTOPHER FESTIVAL ORCHESTRA
Conductor MARTYNAS STAKIONIS
The red priest did not conquer the world with his sermons, but with his music. The mandolin’s Paganini has earned as much renown in the production of this instrument as Stavidarius has with the violin. Do you know who we’re talking about? They, Antonio Vivaldi and Raffaele Calace.
The awe-inspiring mandolin player Julien Marineau will be presenting these composers on his first visit to Vilnius, together with the Christopher Festival Orchestra and the charismatic master of the baton, Martynas Stakionis.
When asked what we can expect from the evening’s program, Martineau replies: “Italian temperament and some very beautiful music. I want to draw the audience’s attention to Calace’s concerto – it is so powerful, an extremely virtuosi work. In terms of its emotional charge, it is very close to the famous Concierto de Aranjuez by Rodrigo, only, written for the mandolin”.
Program features Vivaldi and Calace
Duration: 75 min.
You’ll enjoy this concert if you like the sound of the mandolin, virtuosi works and stunning energy coming from musicians here and now.
